Father's Day is just in a few weeks and I have seen some very cute cards on the web this week.
Even though our Dad has passed, I can't help but think of a few other great Dad's in our life. We should be sure to tell them so.
For my first Card I had these great buttons from Basic Grey, Fact & Fiction collection. There were three of these tan ones in the package of nine. Perfect to go with my brown plaid paper from Recollections. I picked it up at Michaels awhile back and loved it for this masculine card.
I created a cut file with a larger rectangle that I cut out of a dark brown cardstock. Also, I cut the pocket base and collar base. These you will see are lined up on the left hand side of the mat. The right side comprises of the smaller shirt front, collar layer and pocket layer. If you chose to, you can select these three pieces (be sure to include the 3 holes for button placement) and slide them off to the right of the work space. This will leave you with only the items to be cut out of the darker brown. Do your cut.
Now select all items that were just cut and slide them off the work space to the left and bring in the shirt front, pocket and collar layer, previously set aside. Note: If you would like your pocket to be set at the diagonal, leave that off the work space for now. Do your cut.
Now, remove those cut files off to the left and bring in your pocket piece. Using your rotation arrow at the top and to the right in the tool bar, select the item and choose to rotate it at a 45% angle. You can now cut the pocket layer.

I had created a text box, saying happy fathers day and printed this on an 8.5 x 11 pc of craft color cardstock. Then I trimmed this down to 8.5 by 5.5 card and folded this in half.
After gluing the plaid shirt front to the brown liner (being sure to line up the button holes, I sewed the buttons from Basic Grey with some embroidery floss. I could not find a needle that would go through the holes in the buttons, so I used a flosser (floss threader) like you get from the dentist each visit. This made it so easy.
I just glued the collar along the top edge, so it could be free and unattached at the bottom. To help keep the gift card in place. Add some stitching with your sewing machine if you wish, I chose to draw my stitch lines on.
For Card Number 2
Same idea, but a horizontal layout. I used the BoBunny brads for collar stays.
The paper is from DCWV, Dots, stripes, and plaids stack from Joann's.
For Card Number 3.
This is a cut file from the Sihouette Online Store. I used 3 shades of brown. Craft color brown for the base of the card, you can see it at a 90% angle here. The medium shade of brown for the main apron. A dark brown for the pocket and the collar strap detail. Note: The main cut file from Silhouette had 2 smaller pockets. I wanted a larger pocket to hold a gift card, so enlarged one pocket and eliminated to other. I also, added a small pocket further up on the finished card. Cut the spatula shapes out of silver and the little d ring that slides on the collar strap before gluing. The Ketchup bottle and spatula handles are cut out of red paper.
This is where I added a little pocket with a tiny "for daddy" card.
Another Card I found on the Silhouette Online store is this Vintage Station Wagon. It was just fun to make and I used my metal tape for the silver details. This metal tape was bought at Home Depot for a 2 inch wide roll and is normally used for holding insulation in place (I think) But it sure cuts nice on the Silhouette and is really sticky stuff. (I'm sure it isn't acid free, so just be aware of that if you are thinking of using it in your scrapbooks)
Here you can see why this car card was a special cut for me to play with.
Just a photo from my past with sister, Melinda.
And my last card is my favorite, because it has the cutest subject in the photo.
First of all, My daughter uses this great photographer here in Minnesota, called
Pixel Dust Photography by Amber Rishavy
You can find her on Facebook.
When I saw this picture of my granddaughter Morgan, running towards her Dad, I just fell in love with the soft tones, slightly sepia. Echo Park, Hello Spring Collection, had the rain boots, the blue background paper and the saying I used inside that said "Lil Puddle Jumper" I used some of Tim Holtz Distress Inks in "Frayed Burlap" Just to ink the edges on all shapes. It blended very nicely with the sepia tones of the photograph. Just added some "raindrops" from Hero Arts, called Smooth Clear Gemstones.
Simple, fast and I loved how it turned out.
Hope you enjoyed these cards and have fun making them.
